Description
This magnificent osprey, often called a "seahawk", is seen on a dry branch awaiting its prey. As a bird of prey, and a member of the hawk or raptor family, it feeds on fish, and thus builds its nest near a body of water. This photograph of a coastal osprey, also know as a "seahawk" was taken during one of my social distancing outings to visit the baby owls (see previous posts.) I didn't take the photo at midnight, as the title would suggest, but I have placed it on one of Jai Johnson's beautiful watercolor backgrounds.
Osprey are skillful fishers, and make their homes in large nests located near bodies of water. You wouldn't expect these ferocious birds to make the small little "chirp" sound they do -- much different than other raptors. This particular bird must have just recently been fishing, as you can see by the color on his abdomen. Photograph and design © by T.K. Goforth, all rights reserved.
